Dr. Austin was born and raised in the New York area. He graduated from Vassar College and remained in New York to attend medical school at New York University School of Medicine. In medical school he developed a special interest in Dermatology and Dermatopathology (Dermatopathology is the study of the pathology of the skin).

After graduating from medical school, Dr. Austin left the New York area to do a residency in Dermatology at the Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto, California. He subsequently completed a fellowship in dermatopathology.

During his residency and fellowship training, Dr. Austin studied all aspects of Dermatology and Dermatologic surgery, but he developed a special expertise in Skin Cancer.

Dr. Austin has lectured at The American Academy of Dermatology (an annual meeting where Dermatologists from all over the world attend), on the subject of skin cancer. He is presently on the faculty at Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he teaches residents in Dermatology and medical students on a regular basis. Dr. Austin is Board Certified in Dermatology and Dermatopathology.

As a Dermatologist, Dr. Austin treats all diseases of the skin, hair, and nails. This includes all Rashes (such as Eczema, Psoriasis, and Seborrhea), all skin growth (including benign moles and all forms of Skin Cancer), all skin viruses (including Warts, Herpes, Chicken Pox Virus etc.), and all forms of Acne (including childhood, adult, and environmental). Dr. Austin also treats Fungal and Bacterial infections of the skin, Sun Spots, Wrinkles, and Hair Loss.

As a Dermatopathologist, Dr. Austin interprets biopsy specimens of other Dermatologists and provides them with diagnoses.
